What is Homecoming Like?
Homecoming is defined by Wikipedia as “the tradition of welcoming back former students and members and celebrating an organization’s existence.” Literally speaking it is coming home, hence the name homecoming, to your high school or college. All former and current students are invited to attend a designated game in order to celebrate Homecoming.
Spectacular Pre Homecoming Events & Activities
The week leading up to the game there are many activities planned for the community. This will look different depending on the traditions that your school has. The Student Council organization, booster club, administration, and parent groups can all help host part of the activities. These activities could include themed dress up days, assemblies, tailgating, Powder Puff football games, floats, and more. Participating in the activities leading up to the day of the big game is something that you will not want to miss out on.
Homecoming Parade
When the big game day finally arrives there is tons of excitement in the air. Before the game starts your school may have a parade of some sort. Frequently each grade level will create a float. There is often a theme that the floats will all follow to help tie the parade together. Attending the parade is a fun activity for all ages.
There is also Homecoming royalty that will get crowned as part of the Homecoming game. Each school will have a different way that they go about nominating their royalty. It is considered an honor to be elected to be part of the Homecoming royalty. Being the Homecoming King and Queen is something that most people will never forget.
Going to Homecoming Dance with Friends in a Limousine
In addition to all of the other festivities mentioned above there is also a Homecoming dance. The dance is the day after the game. Couples frequently ask and answer their dates in a clever way. Boys dress a little more casual for Homecoming then they do for prom. At most high schools suits are worn by boys for the Homecoming dance instead of tuxedos. The girls will wear formal dresses for the occasion. Lots of preparation goes in to planning the Homecoming date. If you go to a Homecoming dance it will be a memory that you will cherish for years to come.
